Stamp a Faire 2015 – Threads Challenge

August 29th, 2015 klwade Posted in Cardmaking, Crafts, Stamp-a-Faire 1 Comment »

5-threads-challenge

Create a project featuring a thread nest.  We know everyone has a spool of thread lying around and we hope this tutorial inspires you to give it a try. Go dig that old spool out of your sewing kit and try adding it to your paper crafting projects in a fresh, new & trendy way.

Create a project featuring twine.  Danielle highlighted TEN different ways to incorporate twine into your projects, so pick one and get started!

  1. Wrap twine around a card where two patterns meet to create a border.
  2. Add a piece of twine to a section of a card with staples.
  3. Wrap twine around an embellishment before attaching to a card.
  4. Create a twine nest or branches with jute twine.
  5. Use twine as balloon strings.
  6. Stitch with twine.
  7. Bundle twine behind a focal point.
  8. Tie twine onto a tag.
  9. Create faux crocheted flowers with twine.
  10. Create luggage tag tied buttons with twine.

So this time we had two designers giving us their creative ideas on using thread and twine.

Stamp A Faire 2015-Fashion Sense

Fashion-Sense-webview

I forgot to post this last night, maybe because we were having champagne, maybe because I don’t like my creation.  The first is always harder to make.

Make it work Challenge original

I wanted to use my new Mini Minc machine that I just got in the mail.   So I had unpacked down here at my sisters house and went thru the instructions.  But my poor baby Minc was stuck in the “0” position and no matter what I did it would not work.   I used my sisters and it worked great.  Darn I will have to return this machine to the store.

So I used Minc Mint Foil to make the background square that seemed to match the theme of the card.  I watercolored the woman with those awesome Zig Real Clean Color pens.   Which was a fun experience!

But after that I struggled.  Maybe I can fix it later in the other challenge.

Supplies:

PTI Fashion Sense Stamp Set
PTI Tropical Teal Card Stock
My Favorite Things Stitched Square STAX Dies
White and Black cardstock
Memento Black Inkpad

Thanks for looking and not snickering!!!!

Stamp a Faire Bridal Challenge

August 29th, 2015 klwade Posted in Cardmaking, Crafts, Stamp-a-Faire 1 Comment »

Here comes the bride, all dressed in white.  Except in this case, it’s a wedding card that you will be presenting using nothing but white supplies!  The only exception to the rule is that you are allowed to use a neutral ink color (black, gray, brown, etc…) to add a stamped sentiment to the card.  So dig out all of your favorite supplies, especially dies, and build a card based on texture rather than color.  This is a fun approach to designing so just kick back and let the creativity flow!

I woke up this morning and watched the Project Runway video and cringed when the woman pulled that shocking yellow fabric!!  No No NOOOOO!!!  So I ran into the craft area and pulled out my white cardstock, vellum and shimmer paper!   Ahhhhh Now I feel better!   Weddings should be elegant and classy!

Wedding Wishes

Here is my bridal challenge….all white and elegant.

I  first cut out the lacey background from white cardstock and then laid vellum on top.  Because is was hard to see the pattern, I took a stylus to rub around the details to bend the vellum to enhanced the background die cut.

I then made three layers of the swirly die cut and glued them together to give it some height.  I then cute the banner on both white and pearlized paper.

Then I molded the stamp to go along the banner direction, stamping and then embossing.   Darn it I forgot to use the embossing buddy before stamping.  Oh well.

I then enhanced the card with pearls.

Simple and Elegant

Wedding Wishes closeup

Here is close up of the shimmer paper below the banner, it is so subtle that you really cannot tell.

Vellum
Anna Griffin Dies – Lace Trimmings, Carmen Lattice
Papertrey Ink Layered Banner Die

Stamp-a-faire 2015 Friday Night Kickoff

August 28th, 2015 klwade Posted in Crafts, Stamp-a-Faire 8 Comments »

Stamp a Fair Table

Well I made it to my sisters house for our annual Papertrey Ink Stamp-a-faire marathon!!!   We have already made a mess, so I had to clean it up to take this photo.  I decided since it was a project runway theme, I made some paperdolls sporting great fashions!!!

We started the day with ice tea and high hopes… We are now drinking the hard stuff.  Why you ask?  Well my brand new Minc machine does not work, my fashion card looks like crap….(guess I can use it for the redo portion of the stamp-a-faire), we ran out of plugs, we keep forgetting things in the other room.  Yikes, it just keeps getting worst.  However some champagne make the pain go away!!!

But tomorrow is another day, and a fun day it will be!!!!

See you all tomorrow!!!

Stamp-a-Faire 2015 – Friday Night Fashion Show

The following is the quote from the papertrey ink website.  Helps me keep grounded on what I was suppose to do!!!!!

>AUGUST 28TH, 7PM EST<<<

We are going to kick things off by giving you the opportunity to show off your fashion sense, as demonstrated by your crafting skills!. Customers are invited to alter a white t-shirt in any way they see fit.  You can stamp on it, stitch die-cut felt shapes onto it, add ribbons and buttons, color on it, the sky is the limit!  Then add a photo of your shirt (or you wearing your shirt!) to an InLinkz List that will be available here on the blog.  You can share your photos by adding a link from your blog, Instagram, YouTube or whatever outlet you prefer. You can also show off your Stamp-a-faire supplies/set-up or share a quick photo of your Stamp-a-faire groups that might have gotten together early, where you are in your journey or what you are doing to prepare for the next day etc…

PLAN NOW to take lots of photos to share!  Don’t forget to pick up a white t-shirt!  A generous Papertrey Ink gift certificate will be up for grabs!!!  And you’ll have a chance at being featured on the red carpet at the end of the event!

Oh!  And I almost neglected to mention that the the Design Team along with myself will be providing extra special entertainment for you that night!  You will not want to miss this!  Trust me!

OK Challenged met, got the white t-shirt and pondered for days and days on what to make.

An elegant white tshirt with cascading rhinestones.   Too simple, done too many times

A white tshirt with machine embroidery on it.   Although lovely, kinda feels like I did not put enough of myself into the project

A white tshirt with iron on designs made from my cricut.  I thought of using the papertrey ink tree with leaves and doing all sorts of felt and embroidery…. hmmmm maybe.   Darn my cricut needs updating and I don’t have that iron on stuff, scratch that idea.

OK How about a white tshirt make with rosettes from the t-shirt…painted with fabric paint…..maybe soft like shabby chic….maybe make it into a jacket…..with some antique buttons…..YES!!!  That is is.   Certainly nothing I have made before and certainly that would stretch my crafting skills.   So lets get started!!!!!

Started with a plain white tshirt and folded it in half

Then drew a line on the tshirt to give it the bolo jacket look.  Then cut it.  Yikes, cutting up a shirt.   SSOSSOOOOOOOO out of my comfort zone.   Plunge ahead Karen, just keep cutting.

Ok right about this time, I realized that my tshirt was way too thin to hold all the stuff I was planning on adding, So I took the other tshirt from the package and sewed them together.

At this point I would like to thank my Mother for teaching me to sew.  I was able to double it up without any errors, puckers or issues.   That comes from sewing most of my life   My Mother use to sit us girls down when we were just wee ones and have us sew big old buttons onto paper bags with a yarn needle and yarn.   My Mother was an avid sewer and would make us kids the most awesome halloween costumes every year.   MOMS ROCK!!!!!

Daubing tshirt

I cut strips of the tshirt fabric and daubed Tim Holtz Victorian Velvet paint on the tshirt.  This stuff will stay forever on fabric.   Ask me how I know.  Once I was done painting and it dried, I was then able to twist the strips to create roses.   I then sewed them together so they stayed rolled up!

I then created a felt collar to hold the roses and buttons.  Please note that this project had to be made while eating Milk Duds.   No other snack would do.

Tshirt flowers

Here are the roses placed on one of the felt (by the way, this is washable felt made from recycled bottles or something).  I arranged the roses and then made additional stips of just plain white tshirts and scrunched them up by sewing down the middle of the strips and pulling the threads.

As you can see here, they are all inserted into the blank spaces and it creates a victorian shabby chic sort of look.  I think Melissa Phillips may actually admire my works of art, make sure you tell her to look at my design!!!!

Then as a finishing touch, I added Papertrey Ink’s White and Cream buttons to the shirt.

As you can see in this close up how I twisted and rolled the strips into roses.  You can also see the scrunched up strips of white.

And finally the final project.  I can’t wear it and photograph it at the same time so this will have to do.   Hanging up in the patio by the pool!   LOL

Tshirt hanging 2

Just as a side note, I used my ipad to take the pictures, hence the not so clear and sharp images.  But I think you get the point.

So here is my final creation, making a rose enhanced lapel bolero jacket using just a white tshirt, distress paint and buttons.

It’s here, the long awaited Stamp-a-Faire 2015 from Papertrey Ink.   My sister and I had so much fun last year and really felt challenged to do some awesome cards.  We were pushed beyond our comfort zone but it was well worth it when you saw the awesome cards from last year.   Here are a few of my favorites from last year!

So this year I am going down to my sisters house, so I decided to create a decoration for our working table.   Since it was a project runway theme.  I decided to make some paper dolls with the different headers  on them.  Nothing like fashion paper dolls to get your started.

I will have more pictures of our work space once I get down to my sister’s house on Friday!   It should be a blast!!!
